Enterprise Reporting from the New York Times Travel Show

CHORNOBYL TOURISM IN THE EXHIBIT HALL

I was interested to discover that vendors in a booth in the exhibit hall Friday night were offering a tour of Chernobyl.

Sergii Mirnyi, cofounder and director on research and development for the Ukraine-based Chornobyl Tour, was present at the conference along with other representatives. (Mr. Mirnyi is not pictured in the images below).

Mirnyi explained that the venture was not intended to be satirical in nature.

The organizers of the show were kind enough to register me at the conference as press. I have written professionally on travel in the past (A Quick Peak, AT JOURNEYS, published by the Appalachian Trail Conservancy, July-August 2010), and I'd like to do more- because I have international flair.

Images from the Outsider Art Fair 2018

Here are some images from the Outsider Art Fair Outsider Art Fair 2018 in New York.

The first, "Couple Kissing," is from a series of over 100 miniature sculptures called "Unexpected Subway Living" by Jordan MacLachlan.

To see the unusual, sometimes bizarre miniatures arranged in a long row at the show is evoke the experience of observing such bizarre scenes in the destroyed maze of a subway system.

The unique and idiosyncratic pieces range in expression from romantic to amusing to tragic, but always dramatic.

This formidable painting, "Blue Figure, Face, Water Bucket," by Robert Kippur, seems to capture some of the unfortunate zeitgeist.

New Membership in National Association of Science Writers

I'm pleased to announce that i have been admitted to the National Association of Science Writers.

I have over 15 years experience at providing clinical coverage from medical conferences. I have interviewed hundreds of doctors (both MDs and PhDs), and my clinical journalism work has frequently met with approval from practicing doctors.

My work has also been much-approved by my editors. In 2016, for example, almost every article I wrote for Targeted Oncology was published as-is, and without any alterations by copy editors.

I also have garnered recent praise from my clients, such as the American Journal of Managed Care.

Thank you very much for the opportunity to learn about medicine and science by attending professional conferences and speaking with and interviewing highly-trained experts!

New membership in NYFWA

Hello everyone,

I am happy to announce that I have joined the New York Financial Writers Association.

Perhaps this may be an opportunity to find other freelance writing opportunities, or even attend conferences and other events, such as trials, insurance conventions or medical scientific sessions where the news that roils the markets for pharmaceuticals and medical devices is often first reported.
